Haitises & Montaña Redonda

Descriptions

Los Haitises is one of the 4 most important Karst Parks in the World, with a rich fauna and exuberant Flora, with endemic species of the Area. We will leave by bus to Miches and then to Sabana de la Mar, where we will begin the boat tour through Caño Hondo, a stream that runs through the largest mangrove forest in the Caribbean. We will be able to see several species of mangroves, a variety of crustaceans and birds. On this tour we will arrive at the San Lorenzo Lagoon, which is surrounded by lush mangrove forest, a breeding reserve for fish, crustaceans and birds. We will continue until we reach the rocky part, where we visit two caves, which have petroglyphs and carvings on the walls, which are traces left by the Taino Indians who lived there. We will also visit several Mogotes or Atolls scattered throughout the coast that surrounds the park, which are inhabited by dozens of species of birds. After this ecological tour, we headed to the Hotel Paraíso Caño Hondo for lunch, located at the foot of the mountain, where we enjoyed a refreshing swim in its pools of natural water coming from a river that originates in the heart of the park. After lunch, we will take the bus and head to Montaña Redonda, this has a special location, being in the middle of two large lagoons (Laguna Limón & Laguna Redonda), with a spectacular view, showing: The Bay of Samaná, the Peninsula , much of the Eastern Cordillera, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. On the way back from the Mountain, we will take our bus to return to the hotels.
